Can’t She Live A Life For Herself?
She takes care of her kids
She takes care of her home,
She takes care of everything
But what about her personal feelings?
Who will take care of her feelings?
Who is thinking of her,
Who knows, how she is feeling right now?
Is getting married to someone,
Means her life is over…….
She just has to sacrifice her whole life
And live her life for others,
Fulfilling all responsibilities,
As Wife, Daughter- In- Law and a Mother !!!!!
My question is…
Cant She Live A Day From Her Life, Just For Herself?
Why this society only expect her to sacrifice?
Why are kids only her responsibilities?
Why only she has to do the household work?
Whyyy??
I know this question will have different opinions and hence will never be replied …and she just has to move on…
Just because she is a daughter in law,
She is a wife,
She is a mother…
What will society says if she lives a day for herself ????
It’s time we should think about her too, think about her feelings,
As she too wants something from her life.
Life will be beautiful when everyone walks together on the same path by taking care of each other feeling!

Wow.. another heart touching write up! Priyal I feel many women will relate to this post especially Asian women… the tussle, the irony, the agony.. everything was so evident in this post.. loved it!
Thanks dear
Lovely writeup.keep it up #sindhureads #myfriendalexa
Thanks 🙂
Every woman has the right to live life for herself. Society has lined down few duties and she happily embraces them. Result is there is a kind of restlessness. I feel she need to speak up without being double-minded. Sometimes things need to be said out loud.
#MothersGurukulreads #Myfriendalexa
You are right, sometimes things need to be said loudly
Shame that these questions are still being asked. So much for development. Sigh!
wow, you’ve just covered the moto of my blog in your post, but you’ve done it with more flair than me. great poem. expressing the hardship faced by women.
Beautiful, heartfelt piece Priyal. Touched my heart. Keep writing!
A woman is defined by her relationships with others. mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law. etc etc. She cannot break these shackles easily. It takes a lot of courage and conviction to live for herself. I have a feeling it is not possible to do this at all.
But yes, it is really nice to take a break and do something that gives you joy. Even if it is a small thing. Take 1/2 hour out of your day just for you.
That’s what I wanna say, she also needs some time for herself too, so that she can feel good
Yes she can. Its really long that they get their due.

Everyone doesn’t have the same view as you. Hope they too understand this
The society is still dont have a wide view for the life of an woman.

Sad reality and an eye-opener post.
A powerful post! More power to you, and more power to women!
Thank you
Very beautifully expressed Priyal! I am currently reading a book – The Mum who’d had enough which also talks about the same issues. The mother who sacrifices her career and dreams feels she is not appreciated enough. So one day she decides to leave her family, but even then she is not excused. People point fingers at her that how she could leave her son, as if fathers don’t do it all the time. The sad reality of life!
That’s true its the sad reality of life, hope people start understanding their feeling soon
I think there is a slow and steady change in the thought process. As women are being more vocal and donning more than one hat, the family members too are pitching in.
Yes there is but still they are some orthodox family members who still think the same. Hope they too starting thinking about this
It’s high time.. she stops thinking of what society will think .. If she lives for herself.. she is making sure she is getting better for everyone else who needs her 🙂
Great thoughts.. awesome lines!!
Hope she can fight this time for herself ..
Nice post, loved reading it:)
You write so well. I dont believe on the man woman fact rather I think myself as a human being. And every individual has the right to live their own life independently. And you know what, you have to raise your voice from the very beginning. You have to tell your family that everything is not your responsibility. Sacrifice is not your word only. For all these thing, financial independence is imp.Its my life lesson dear.
Nice Poem, time is fast changing and more and more ladies in urban society today enjoy more power, much better status.
Life is beautiful when there someone to take care of you like you do
Our society is patriarchal and women are expected to bear all the burden. She is expected to serve the husband, children, in-laws and all the other members of the family from morning till night. After all woman is human being and has a right to her space in life. She has certain aims and ambitions for herself. There is nothing wrong if a woman aspires for certain things, aims for some personal satisfaction herself. The Indian society is still primitive and tends to put a woman on a pedestal and keep her chained there. In recent years things have been changing. I hope this trend continues…
Yes I too hope people start changing their thinking soon..though some people already started
Sad reality, but its good to see many women today are taking out time for themselves. Hope more and more women get to live their lives in their own terms.
Yes I write this post for them only so that they can start thinking about their own life too…hope it works
The story of all ladies..at some point or the other…I think all can relate. Deep and thought-provoking.
We’ve all found ourselves asking this question at some time or the other in our lives. Glad you put in the form of a beautiful poem to give your readers food for thought.
Thanks for the appreciation
Sometimes there is no asking Priyal! We just need to take that day and live it! I totally agree with your views! Somewhere between the generations something went wrong! 🙂 Glad we are thinking better!
Yes you are right but sometime…….
Very thought provoking message. Yes she has a right to live for herself and I believe all woman need to find their way and enjoy the ME time.

Beautiful lines, the other day I spoke to my MIL on the same terms I gave her 1 answer, Why always a girl has to sacrifice? Have you seen your son who never wears a ring or chain how will people come to know if he is married she smiled at me and said he never listens to me and hates jewelry. I said it is the same with me I don’t like gold jewelry at all and wearing it for every random occasion makes me irritated. She kept quiet 🙂 I have the best MIL, she loves me like her own daughter.

Chuck what the world thinks, its what we think matters!
Beautiful!! Loved it to the core. Wish ppl understood that yes every woman, be it a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, have a life of their own. But sad reality is that she is expected to live as per the terms and conditions laid for her without her permission
Thats what I want to show to the society that she too have a feeling and choices
You raised a very valid question in very simple words buddy..touched.
Thanks dear
A very pertinent question put across brilliantly.
Thanks…hope my little effort bring some changes
So many poets here. discovering them thanks to #myfriendalexa.
Hey Priyal , this is the story of almost all women in India, save for few. Each and every sentence in your poem echoes the hardships of Indian ladies. Sacrificing her own body & Mind for the joys of family-members is considered the duty of women. #MyFriendAlexa #SujatawdeReads
Every line describes so many things of her life… well written
Thanks
Everyone has the right to live for themselves. It’s a fact that no matter how much you earn and contribute financially towards the family, as a woman you are always responsible for the domestic work. Things are changing for the better, but it’s way too late and way too slow
That’s true
Well expressed. Self love is the most important thing that empowers and makes a person more compassionate.
Yes Priyal…Time has come! it’s just that she has to turn deaf for a while may be, not to bother what people say, and blind as well, not to care how she is being judged! Lovely thoughts.

Thanks
Beautiful post, Priyal.
Thank you
Can’t She Live A Life For Herself? Line itself speaks 1000 words.. Good one Pari 🙂
Thank you 🙂
Such beautifully you have weaved these messages.
Thanks 🙂
A sad reality but the way out is also in her(women’s) hands only. If we keep quiet and keep sacrificing in the name of relationships, it will continue the same way. Its up to us to draw lines and take time to do what we want.
Enjoyed reading it, Priyal.
True… Beautifully penned
Thanks
WOW!!! I loved your thoughts and the way you have expression. Things are also changing and women are getting assertive also. However society has a long way to go way it comes to stereotype thinking. 🙂
Thanks for liking my thoughts
A woman is defined by many roles she plays and even though I feel that many have realized the importance of “Me time” and doing what they want in it, we still have a long way to go. Well expressed!
That’s true everyone need “Me Time ” from their life and most of the women start thinking about this …
Respect the women, love the women, they are backbone of the society. Enjoy the post very much
Thanks
A beautiful message. We read so much about woman empowerment, and yet we lag behind as a nation in terms of emancipation of women.
Every woman needs to understand that she deserves to live for herself first, and then for her responsibilities. That is not being selfish. That is just being liberated. And she deserves that freedom!
Yes that’s not being selfish, but the society, family think by doing such things they are doing something wrong. Hope they change their thinking soon
Very well written
Thanks
True, beautifully penned
Food for thought!! Time and again we have asked this to ourselves. Loved the way you penned it down in poetry form. It speaks for all those women out there.
Thank you
This had me welled-up … story of many women around the world…keep writing!
If I live on my terms and don’t care about society
I am happy to be called iselfish as I am living my life for myself….!!
Beautiful poem!
Thanks
A cry from the heart.
Very nice. Gone are those days when women was happy in just taking care of others, fulfilling everyones needs. These had an excitement in her and she felt some accomplishment. This is what I have seen from my mother and grandmother. But now this are no more same. They start to feel why they should live only for others and not for her too! Very valid. And this should have come from us rather them from her.
We should have already made her live for herself! But then, thats mothers love only mothers know and understand!
Iove the way you reply to my thoughts
Honestly, I feel you have some misconceptions. No one forced her to have kids plus these are biggest misconceptions that only she do the household work and only she has the responsibility of the kids and other family members and man do nothing. A man do equal number of household chores as of hers and helps her grow kids equally. At least I have seen that, I don’t know which world you are talking about.
I am not pointing anyone but most of the women are facing this, maybe you haven’t seen this but I personally have seen saw many people like this
I think most women lack in respecting themselves. They need to first respect themselves and then expect the same from others.
Exactly they need to fight for themselves and respect their feelings too rather then compromise
May the day come when a woman is not only defined as a daughter, a wife or a mother. A touching poem!
#DeepTiesReads #MyFriendAlexa

She should start thinking for herself before it becomes too late… A woman might be looking after everything, but she forgets to take care of her well-being, both physically and mentally, nothing will fall into place… It’s high time we all realize that! You gave shape to your thoughts beautifully…
Thanks
A poem from the heart, Priyal!
Reading this I thought, I don’t want just a day to live for myself, my way, I want my entire lifetime. And I wish women all around me are strong enough to voice their feelings and ask for their due.
Yes it’s from the heart only
I too wish every woman get strong and raise their voice for their rights
I feel it’s all in her own hands how she wants her life to be treated. She’s capable of wearing so many hats and takes care of all the responsibilities then why does she give her life in the hands of other people? She is capable of taking care of her life, she is capable of dreaming, she’s capable of flying high but she just needs to look beyond her roles and find herself first. She will be much happier! Loved your poem!
Agree with you she needs to find herself first .
Thanks for liking the poem
The last line is perfect. We can walk together and happily if we take care of each other’s feelings.
I think we women ourself too ignore our needs! Others would start considering our needs only when we make them a priority, right?
Yes can’t deny on this, sometimes we only who ignore our needs
So many valid questions and so many roles she plays. Brilliant poem!
Thanks for putting in beautiful words, what exactly ‘she’ wants and what exactly we all want !!
Pleasure …
I can see the angst and frustration shining through. I have been there and empathize with you. Time for her to stop caring about What will the society say and do what she thinks is right
Namratha from #firstgreenstep #MyFriendAlexa
Yes it’s time they should stop thinking about others & society
So relatable, but thankfully i havd very supportive family
That’s good to know, so I have too 🙂
In some cases, she has to voice her thoughts. Let people know that she’s a human that needs her space.
I guess the story of every woman every mother. Many times the world doesn’t recognize her efforts.
I guess it’s every womens story in this modern world.. And I guess we women have the power and will to take the reigns in our hand.
You have raised very pertinent questions. Before she is a wife, daughter in law or mother, she is a human being. She too has all the rights to enjoy her life.
Thanks
Amazing and beautiful post. Beautifully expressed thoughts.
Thanks
Loved every line. It is so simple yet holds such a bitter truth. It evoked emotions within me as I read it. Please keep writing. I need to share it on many platforms as possible. Very well done
Thank you so much, that’s what I want to spread this poem to everyone who is going through this lifestyle.
exactly my question too
Hmm
Wow love how you have drafted this beautiful poem. Great work
Agree totally. And instead of expecting someone else to take care of us, we need to take charge of our lives. We need to find and do what gives us joy. We totally deserve a break often.
#MyFriendAlexa #momlearningwithbaby #Blogchatter
Yes we too need a break sometime to meet the real us
Thought provoking write-up! We need to take charge of our life…
Yes
Amazing write up and I agree each woman has a complete right to live her life and fulfilled her dreams. luckily now the things are changing in our society and women getting equal opportunities to live her life in her own way. #surbhireads #Myfriendalexa

Sensitivity and caring for other’s feelings is very important irrespective of the gender. Raised a valid point. It’s time to change that.
Exactly its time to bring changes around us
Lines written beautifully, expressing the love and emotional turmoil going inside mother’s mind and heart so well. Awesome job with the poem.

Girl you are awesome… Me I HV just started spreading my wings
Thanks
Thanks Priyal for sharing this amazing short. Everyone have equal right to live life in their own way , just because she is a woman not means she is meant to sacrifice only… But all I want to say that time has changed now and so the many things, now women are also getting equal importance in making decisions and also in choosing her carrier.
This poem is for those who are still not fighting for their rights ….a way to reach them and realize their worth
This is beautifully written. 🙂
Thanks
Sad, but true situation of most Indian women. And if they try to do something, most end up getting emotionally, mentally, and /or physically burnout.
That’s why I wanted to spread this poem to everyone so people started understanding how a women feel. Hope it work out as the way I want it too
True story for so many women across the world. Well i hope this woman puts her foot down and starts to demand what she wants from the peoplee around her. Because its only when she is truly happy that she will be a better mother/ daughter/ wife/ bahu etc.
Beautiflly penned down!
Thanks
Wow!! Speechless 🙂
True that. to move forward, both men and women to be treated equally.
Exactly
Absolutely and we women have to empower ourselves and not feel less than anyone. I am blessed with an awesome spouse balancing all.
This is a hard-hitting poem, Priyal and I agree with every bits of it. Of course, showering some love, having small talks on things that matter and caring goes a long way in maintaining a love-filled relationship.
https://www.rohankachalia.com/2018/09/payback-part-4/
That’s true…I am glad at least someone understands my point of view
Very thoughtful and honest. Although for urban women, things are little better now. But in rural areas, still she has no identity. Despite a woman carries tons of duties and complete them with any much support, still no one bothers give her the credit she deserves.
It is the sad reality and true story of millions of women across the world!
I feel you. Times are changing but there’s still a long way to go.
It’s all inside us, I think! The cage we build, and the limitation we feel are all inside us!
what a beautiful poem. I really think I will end my life while care about family and relatives.
I can totally imagine this because I feel the same too. we keep caring, doing, loving for our family and sometimes some appreciation is all that we want. I wish the society was more giving.
How beautiful and touching this post this. It is the true case of living in the society where a women is not supposed to think much for herself.
Sadly this is the harsh reality of our society. And it may sound stereotypical, there is no escape route. Life is full of people who are ready to pull you down all the time. #surreads #myfriendalexa #blogchatter
Because women in the yester years have been made to accept such roles that they have taught their daughters the same thing and today we live in a society where those thoughts are the basis of a girl’s life! Every women is more than the roles that she plays and she has every right to live the way her heart desires!
You have streak of a writer. Very succinctly put. I totally agree with your words. We, women, put in so much! We do need some me time. And we shouldn’t ever be Guilty of that.
She has been taking so many responsibilities but when it comes to her, she is afraid of dreaming. She is afraid to fly and afraid to think about herself. She needs to find herself and live the life she wants.
Yes she also need to fly without any fear in her life
That’s a great poem.. but no matter what , I don’t see it changing any time soon.. sharing this with people whom mean a lot to me .
Thanks
These are age-old questions Priyal and should not be asked anymore. They should be taken as equal rights with the man. All the best. #wordsmithkaurreads
Still they are many women who face this problem in their life. This post is for them
That’s very intriguing poem, which I can easily relate to. Indeed women spend most of her life taking care of others.
That’s true

that’s such a nicely drafted poem, sadly that’s the harsh reality of our society but glad you touched this topic
Heart Touching composition, we require to carve our niche instead of waiting somebody to help.

Very valid questions with a simple answer. It’s not time to think, it’s time to act. She should take charge of her ‘Me-Time” it’s her responsibility, Isn’t it?
